Giant’s causeway-NORTHERN IRELAND THINGS TO DO AND SEE

The main attraction of the Giant’s causeway is the hexagonal shaped stones. It was formed around 60 million years ago by lava. The basalt content in the lava gave its hexagonal shape.

There is also a legend behind the name of Giant’s causeway. It is believed that an Irish giant named Finn McCool created this causeway. He created it to cross the Irish Sea to face his rival, the Scottish giant Benandonner. Benandonner distroyed the causeway leaving what you see  today as he fled back to Scotland following their fearsome meeting.

It is under Nation trust. If you are a member, you do not need to take entry ticket. It is free. It is good to prebook even if it is free in peak season. Visitor Experience tickets include guided tours, access to exhibition area, cafe, shop, use of hand held audio guides and parking.  If you need accessibility equipment, including motorised scooters and wheelchairs, you can get it if you have visitor’s Experience ticket, on a first come, first served basis. If you reach the Causeway after the national trust visiting centre and car park closed, normally the next door hotel does allow you to park you car in their private car park for a parking fee ( you can spend this parking fee in their restaurant or cafe- that’s a good deal)

Shuttle bus service:
There is a shuttle bus service running from the the Visitor Centre to the Grand Causeway and return. You have pay it separate. National Trust members can use this Accessible Bus service for free. More details check out National Trust website
